Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology

Date: February 18, 2016

HMB April 2016 v1Board of Governors Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology Helen M. Berman has been selected as a Fellow of the International Society of Computational Biology.

The ISCB Fellows program was created to honor members who have distinguished themselves through outstanding contributions to the fields of computational biology and bioinformatics. During the 2009 inaugural year of the program, the ISCB Board of Directors unanimously conferred Fellows status on the seven winners-to-date of the ISCB Accomplishment by a Senior Scientist Award, and will do the same automatically for all future senior award winners. Since 2010 we have sought Fellows nominations from our members, with eligibility restrictions based on a strong history of membership, and selection criteria focused most heavily on the significance of scientific contributions to our field and to ISCB. We were pleased to receive many excellent nominations this year, and the committee members carefully considered each one. Ultimately, following our standardized voting procedure (2016 voting committee: all existing Fellows), thirteen nominees were elected as this year's newest Fellows.

The 2016 Fellows will be recognized during the ISMB 2016 conference (July 8-12, 2016, in Orlando, Florida). The exact time and date of this announcement is to be determined, but it is likely to take place on the morning of Monday or Tuesday of the meeting just prior to the Fellows Keynote. Although your attendance is not required for this announcement, we hope you will be attending the conference and will stand to be recognized when your name is called. Meanwhile, you can begin using the ISCB Fellow title immediately. Note also that ISCB will officially announce the award by a press release planned for distribution within the next two weeks. If your institution will also distribute a press release or web announcement, please coordinate with This email address is being protected from spambots.
