Use of computer systems:
All
computer use is governed by the Rutgers Acceptable Use Policy which can be
viewed at http://rucs.rutgers.edu/acceptable-use.html.
Connection to the network:
Computer systems will also
comply with the Standards for Management of Computer Systems at Rutgers, which can
be viewed at http://rucs.rutgers.edu/host-acct-req.html. In order to accomplish this these procedures
will be followed:
·
Systems will not be attached
to the network until they have been assigned a network address and name. The hardware address of the system or device
will be recorded.
·
Multi-user systems require an
account and password for each user, and computing staff will keep usage logs
for a least one month.
·
Systems, which do not require
user authentication, will be the responsibility of the owner. Systems on the network with open access will
not be allowed.
Backups:
A good backup system is a
necessary part of any computer operation in case of accidental or malicious
loss of data. Backups are the
responsibility of the system owner unless the system is part of one of the
departmental backup groups.
Computer Support:
The
Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology has a computer support staff that
is responsible for all computer hardware, software and networking in the
Department.
