Server Protection
Our mail server does not
currently scan for viruses, but this feature may be added later.
Workstation Protection
All workstations in the department must be running McAfee’s VirusScan Security Suite
VShield will be set to operate on each workstation with the following settings:
“Scan files on:” Run, Copy, Create, Rename
“Scan disks on:” Access, Shutdown
“What to Scan”: All files
“General”: Load Vshield at Startup, Show Icon on the Taskbar
Actions Settings:
“When a virus is found”: Prompt user for action
“Possible Actions”: Clean infection, Delete file, Stop file access
In the event a virus is discovered on a workstation, it is the responsibility of the user to notify the acting system administrator immediately. It is then the responsibility of the acting system administrator to take action to eradicate the virus from the workstation or network drives immediately.
Periodic Update of Virus
Signature Files
Systems are set to check
on Thursdays for updates to the virus signature files (DAT) and to check once a
month for upgrades to the software.
