"Cation-Responsive P incer-Crown Ether Complexes for Tumble Catalysis"
Catalyst perfo rmance often depends on the ability of a substrate to bind a transitio n metal center, but methods to control these substrate binding pr ocesses remain elusive. We are harnessing interactions between mo lecular catalysts and their environment to control organometallic cata lysis. Incorporating a crown ether macrocycle into a robust pincer ligand enables the donor properties of such “pincer-crown ether” lig ands to be tuned through cation-macrocycle interactions. Mechanis tic studies of the dynamic interactions between catalysts, cations, an d substrates provide an emerging picture of how cations can tune catalyst performance.
