New Faculty Commencing Sept 1, 2019

REMSING HEADHSOT 0001 2Postdoctoral Fellow, Temple University, 2015-2019 (Michael L. Klein)
Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Pennsylvania, 2013-2015 (Amish J. Patel)
Ph.D., Chemical Physics, University of Maryland, 2008-2013 (John D. Weeks)
B.S., Chemistry, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 2004-2008 (Guillermo Moyna)

Rick Remsing obtained a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, where he performed research in the lab of Professor Guillermo Moyna, focusing on biomass dissolution in ionic liquids. He then joined the Chemical Physics program at the University of Maryland under the guidance of Professor John Weeks. Rick’s Ph.D. thesis focused on the theory and simulation of liquids at interfaces. After graduate school, he joined the group of Professor Amish Patel in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department at the University of Pennsylvania, working on hydrophobic effects and protein hydration. Rick then moved to Temple University as a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Professor Michael Klein, where he worked on a variety of problems in the energy and materials sciences. Rick begins his independent research career in Fall 2019 as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Rutgers University.

Future Research

Research in the Remsing Group seeks to develop and apply theoretical and computational tools at the intersection of quantum chemistry and statistical mechanics. We use these approaches to make predictions and uncover strategies for controlling chemistry and material properties. We are particularly interested in the mechanisms governing reactivity and the transport of energy, charge, and matter in complex molecular systems for applications in renewable and sustainable energy, catalysis, and nanotechnology. Students interested in any of these areas are encouraged to contact Rick: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
