Mission Statement

cal con 2013 welcomeThe North American Calorimetry Conference (CALCON) has served as the premier collegial forum for the dissemination of current research and state-of-the-art technological developments in calorimetry and thermodynamics since its inception in 1946. CALCON convenes annually at selected sites in the United States or Canada, and jointly with the IUPAC sponsored International Conference on Chemical Thermodynamics whenever ICCT meets in North America. CALCON participants represent a broad cross-section of scientists in academia, government, and industry whose research interests primarily focus on the development and application of calorimetric methods and/or thermochemical techniques. Papers presented at CALCON span a diverse range of disciplines within the fields of biology, chemistry, and physics as well as emerging areas of research at the interface of core disciplines. Specific areas of interest include fundamental advances and applications in biology and medicine, biothermodynamics, biomaterials, environmental sciences, pharmaceutical products, food technology, solutions and fluid mixtures, condensed matter, nanoparticles, polymer science, solid-state materials, computer simulations, and thermodynamic databases. CALCON welcomes original research contributions describing novel and innovative thermodynamic approaches at the interface of core technologies.

The 68th Calorimetry Conference

The 68th Calorimetry Conference (CALCON 2013) follows in the footsteps of last year’s joint meeting with the International Conference on Chemical Thermodynamics in the picturesque resort city of Buzios, Brazil. While CALCON 2012 represented a historic milestone given its location outside the confines of the North American continent, The 68th Calorimetry Conferences honors our heritage and legacy by revisiting the site of The Second Calorimetry Conference which convened at the majestic and stately Traymore Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. While the skyline of this resort destination has undergone dramatic changes over the past six decades, a new generation of architectural marvels glistens on the infamous boardwalk. We cordially welcome you to join us at the ultra sleek Revel as we embark on a retrospective journey back in time to the formative years of The Calorimetry Conference.

Following in the legacy of The Second Calorimetry Conference, the Organizing Committee has planned a diverse technical program comprised of six scheduled symposia addressing current topics in:

  • Biothermodynamics: Macromolecular Association and Folding
  • Condensed Matter and Solid State Studies
  • Biopharmaceutical and Pharmaceutical Applications
  • Aqueous Solutions, Fluid Mixtures, and Polymers
  • Databases, Global Analysis, Modeling, and Simulations
  • Specialized Applications of Calorimetry and Thermal Analysis

Conference participants are invited to submit original research papers presenting novel calorimetric, thermochemical, and thermodynamic studies for platform or poster presentation. Please join your colleagues during the week of 18-22 August 2013 as we convene our sixty-eighth annual meeting at the newest luxury resort on the Atlantic City boardwalk and enjoy a memorable visit to New Jersey’s favorite vacation destination.
